Many wonderful and inspirational surprises lie within the covers of this book and its companion, Volume 2. Dr. Skousen has always tried to write his books so that the scriptures come alive for the modern reader. He has followed the same pattern in these two books, and for many New Testament students it is believed these two volumes will provide a new, dynamic, three-dimensional appreciation of the Savior and those who labored with Him. At the same time the reader will grasp a new conception of the love Jesus had for the Jewish people. Because of their loyalty during the war in heaven and their valiant performance during the pre-existence, he chose them to help Him through His ordeal in order to provide a redemptive sacrifice for all mankind. After Peter told the Jews that Jesus was not an imposter, but that they had assented to His death in ignorance, he invited them to repent and enter the waters of baptism. Once the Jews understood that they had played a necessary part in a divine plan--and could be forgiven for their mistake--they became Christians by the thousands. The reader will also discover a whole new scriptural basis for Peter's denial of the Christ.

This volume covers the amazing developments in the last six months of the Savior's life. During this brief period, we encounter a broad vista of scriptural surprises. For example, we discover that during the crisis connected with the last week in the Savior's life, all of the apostles lost their testimonies. Jesus knew this would happen, and at the Last Supper He told Peter that when he was reconverted he should strengthen his brethren. We also find that all during the Savior's ministry, the apostles were anxiously expecting a cataclysmic event that was not scheduled on the Father's prophetic timetable until approximately 2,000 years later. It seems very strange that in spite of all of the Savior's marvelous miracles, His half-brothers rejected Him during His ministry. However, in the end, they all accepted Jesus as their Savior, and one of them became an apostle. The Savior's prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane created the greatest crisis in His entire existence. In this volume we learn what would have happened to all of us if Jesus had chosen to reject the cruel and terrifying ordeal on the cross. One prophet even describes what would have happened to Jesus himself if He had refused to complete His mission as our Redeemer. We learn the fascinating things the apostles were taught during the forty days between the resurrection and the ascension. As a result, the apostles were able to launch their ministry to the world with a whole new manual of instructions for the Kingdom of God on earth. Students of the scriptures recognize the New Testament as one of the greatest scriptures ever written, but even those who have read it a number of times may still find a great many new and exciting treasures of inspiration and knowledge as this second volume unfolds.
